BearyTime (“we,” “our,” or “us”) values your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information of your family, especially your children. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights — including your rights under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
1. Information We Collect
a. Account & Order Information (Parents/Guardians)
- Name and email address
- Shipping and billing addresses
- Payment details (processed securely via Stripe — we never store card numbers)
b. Child Profile Information
When you create a child profile, you may provide:
- Child’s first name and age
- Physical description (e.g., hair color, eye color)
- A photo of your child (optional)
- Hobbies, interests, and favorite places
- A best friend’s name for use as a story character
- Reading level and preferred illustration style
All child profile information is entered by a parent or guardian. We do not collect information directly from children.
c. Biometric Data
If you upload a photo of your child, that photo is transmitted to Fal.ai (our AI image generation partner) to extract visual features for creating an illustrated character resembling your child. This process may constitute the collection of biometric data under applicable state laws (including the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act and the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act). We obtain your explicit consent before processing any photo for this purpose.
d. Usage Information
- Browser type, device information, and IP address
- Pages visited and features used on our site
- Cookies (see Section 6)
2. How We Use Your Information
- Fulfill and ship your orders
- Generate personalized illustrated story adventures for your child
- Create an AI-illustrated character based on your child’s description and photo
- Deliver QR codes and digital access to your stories
- Send order confirmations and adventure-related emails
- Improve our website and user experience
- Comply with legal obligations
3. AI Image Generation & Third-Party Partners
BearyTime uses Fal.aito generate illustrated story images. When you create a child profile with a photo or physical description, that information is sent to Fal.ai solely to generate personalized illustrations for your child’s adventures.
Your child’s photo, description, and any other personal information will never be used to train AI models — by BearyTime or by Fal.ai. We have obtained contractual assurances from Fal.ai that input data is not used for model training.
We may also share information with:
- Stripe — for payment processing
- Resend — for transactional email delivery
- Shipping and logistics providers to fulfill physical orders
We do not sell your personal data. All vendors are contractually required to maintain confidentiality and security.
4. Children’s Privacy (COPPA)
BearyTime is a service for parents and guardians. We take the protection of children’s information seriously and comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and its 2025 amendments.
Parental Consent
Before creating a child profile, we require parents or guardians to provide verifiable consent by reviewing and affirmatively agreeing to our data collection and AI use disclosures. This consent covers:
- Collection of the child’s name, age, description, and photo
- Use of that information to generate AI illustrations via Fal.ai
- Any biometric processing involved in character generation from a photo
Parental Rights
As a parent or guardian, you have the right to:
- Review the personal information we have collected about your child
- Correct inaccurate information by updating the child’s profile in your account
- Delete a child’s profile and all associated data directly from your account dashboard, or by contacting us
- Refuse further collection by deleting the child’s profile — no further data will be collected or processed
- Revoke consent at any time; upon revocation, we will promptly delete all data associated with that child’s profile
To exercise any of these rights, use the Delete button on your child’s profile in your account dashboard, or contact us at support@bearytime.com. We will respond promptly.
Data Retention
We retain child profile data only as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. Photos that do not result in an adventure order are deleted within 24 hours. All child profile data is deleted within 12 months of your last order, unless you request earlier deletion.
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information, including:
- Encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data transmission
- Access-controlled private storage for all child photos and story images
- Role-based access controls limiting which systems can access child data
- Row-level security in our database so families can only access their own data
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We will notify affected users promptly in the event of a data breach.
6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies to:
- Maintain your login session
- Remember your preferences
- Understand how visitors use our site (analytics)
You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not function properly without them.
7. Third-Party Links
Our site may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their policies before providing personal information.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a new effective date. For material changes, we will notify you by email or with a notice in your account.
